Bruce Conner, 1976, 36 minutes

Multidisciplinary artist Bruce Conner was a master of the found footage film. Here, he uses archival footage of the first nuclear weapons test; the detonation of a bomb on Bikini Atoll in the summer of 1946. Over the course of the film the explosion is repeated 15 times, in various speeds and from many different angles, immersing the viewer in a mesmerizing sense of doom.
